Observation of the Moon shadow with the ANTARES neutrino telescope
نویسنده
چکیده
neutrinos. In the absence of an astrophysical standard candle, a possible way to measure the angular resolution and the pointing accuracy for a neutrino telescope is to look at “Moon shadow” in the atmospheric muon flux. The analysis method and the first results of the observation of the Moon shadow with ANTARES will be presented and discussed. The data, analysed in this work, were collected between Jan 31st, 2007 and Dec 31th 2010, for a total live time of 814 days.

On neutrino oscillations searches with ANTARES
Although the first evidence for neutrino oscillations came from measurements on atmospheric neutrinos in underground experiments, neutrino oscillations have yet to be demonstrated in high energy neutrino telescopes, whose energy threshold is significantly higher. Recent studies have shown that a clean sample of atmospheric neutrinos with energies as low as 20 GeV can be isolated in the ANTARES ...
متن کاملANTARES and other Neutrino Telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere
Several projects are concentrating their efforts on opening the high energy neutrino window on the Universe with km-scale detectors. The detection principle relies on the observation, using photomultipliers, of the Cherenkov light emitted by charged leptons induced by neutrino interactions in the surrounding detector medium. In the Northern hemisphere, while the pioneering Baikal telescope, has...
متن کاملFirst results on the search for dark matter in the Sun with the ANTARES neutrino telescope
The ANTARES collaboration is currently operating the largest neutrino detector in the Northern Hemisphere. One of the goals of ANTARES is the search for dark matter in the universe. In this paper, the first results on the search for dark matter in the Sun with ANTARES in its 5 line configuration, as well as sensitivity studies on the dark matter search with the full ANTARES detector and the fut...
متن کاملPositioning system of the ANTARES Neutrino Telescope
Completed in May 2008, the ANTARES neutrino telescope is located 40 km off the coast of Toulon, at a depth of about 2500 m. The telescope consists of 12 detector lines housing a total of 884 optical modules. Each line is anchored to the seabed and pulled taught by the buoyancy of the individual optical modules and a top buoy. Due to the fluid nature of the sea-water detecting medium and the fle...
متن کاملUnderwater acoustic detection of UHE neutrinos with the ANTARES experiment
The ANTARES Neutrino Telescope is a water Cherenkov detector composed of an array of approximately 900 photomultiplier tubes in 12 vertical strings, spread over an area of about 0.1 km with an instrumented height of about 350 metres. ANTARES, built in the Mediterranean Sea, is the biggest neutrino telescope operating in the northern hemisphere. Acoustic sensors (AMADEUS project) have been integ...
